ELECTRATHON is a type of ELECTRIC MARATHON in which the winner is determined by distance traveled in a certain time with a given amount of battery power.

  • To provide a forum where skill and ingenuity may be displayed, compared and tested.
  • To improve public awareness and understanding of efficient alternative electric vehicles.
  • To create an affordable sport defined by established rules in which groups and Individuals can participate competitively and safely.

 

GENERAL VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Electrathon America vehicles are single person, lightweight, aerodynamic, high efficiency, electric vehicles with three or four wheels of 16" diameter or larger. They must meet specific design and safety rules. They are powered by deep cycle lead acid battery packs not exceeding 64 pounds.

 

The CCHS Electrathon Vehicle Project is an integrated academic/career technical education project, which involves approximately 60 academic and career-technical education students assigned to the following teams: research, design engineers, electrical engineers, auto body specialists, graphic designers, machining engineers, suspension/steering and brake specialists, drivers, assemblers, journalists/web designers, and pit crew. The vehicle represents an environment-friendly alternative method of transportation. It is a lightweight electrically powered vehicle using the same basic technology used in full sized electric transportation cars.

            The goal of the Electrathon project is to provide a spectator sport that will build public awareness of the capabilities and potential of efficient electric vehicles. The project is developed around specific rules designed to make it cost-effective and competitive. It offers the opportunity and challenge to experiment and learn. It is an opportunity to learn how to think rather than what to think. It is an opportunity to integrate physics, mathematics, drafting technology, machine technology, welding, electrical technology, automotive technology, English, social studies, the arts, and graphic design.
