PURPOSE:

The Chicopee Comprehensive High School Debate team engages in policy debate in the Connecticut Valley Debate League.  Team members attend weekly meetings, study the topic for the season, and work in pairs to go up against teams from other area schools.

Students develop their ability to think carefully about important issues.  They also learn confidence, effective public speaking, professionalism, teamwork, and research skills.  Debate is excellent training for college, business, and especially, the legal profession.

Competitions take the form of weekly meets on Wednesdays in January and February.  Trophies and awards follow the banquet after the final round of debate on the last Wednesday of the season.

Meeting Times:          Wednesdays after school.

                                       (Practice Meetings are held on Tuesdays)

Season:                       Late September to February

Sign Up:                      Announcements are made in September calling for new members to visit the weekly meetings.
